Founded in 2017 with the support of a dedicated group of families living in the South Bronx, Monte Sur grew out of a need for a play-based, Spanish-immersion, Montessori program with a unique, child-centered approach to early childhood education. Named after the Montessori philosophy of education (Monte) and the deep sense of pride in place (“Sur”, South in Spanish), this special early learning environment is spearheaded by Coral Nogueras, a bilingual mother and educator with more than 10 years of experience in childhood education and more than 5 years of experience in early childhood education and Montessori training. Located in the historic Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx on the ground floor of a brownstone with garden access, Monte Sur provides a comfortable learning space for toddlers ages 18 months to 36 months.
The Monte Sur educational approach is deeply rooted in a common respect for young children as competent and independent learners. It is our hope that in providing young children with room to develop their fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional and language skills, they will continuously and naturally confront their curiosities to become lifelong learners. We strive to educate all young children with respect, an open-mind and a true passion for learning.
Our approach to early childhood education combines Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies as foundation. Entrusting the child to build-on the direction of the curriculum as envisioned and guided by Maestra Coral.
